What Academics can Learn From TikTok and Sesame Street: The Implications of Interactive Dissemination Methods to Increase Engagement with Scholarly Research
This paper explores the ways in which the tools utilised by social media influencers to increase post engagement may inform the ways in which academic research is disseminated in the future. It argues that more accessible and inclusive online academic communities may be fostered if the use of non-stagnant dissemination methods (including short form video, live infographics and real-time interaction) are employed within the social media presence of academic scholars. A critical examination of the ways in which neoliberal discourses informing the marketisation of social media spaces may influence these online social spaces is also undertaken.
